Letter to the Editor | Gig Harbor Junior Sailing fundraiser brings in over $100,000

Posted on October 22nd, 2024 By: Joan Storkman

Gig Harbor Junior Sailing would like to thank our community for their tremendous support of our 15th annual on-line and in-person Dinner auction which was held recently at Gig Harbor Yacht Club.

We were overwhelmed to have exceeded our fundraising goal of $100,000 to allow us to continue to serve the needs of youth in providing Sail Camp for over 600 youth and Race Team for 60 youth annually! While tuition covers salaries of our staff, the auction funds boats, equipment and facilities–all sizable expenses. GHJS has only 2 full-time staff and the rest of the efforts are by volunteers–even boat repairs and the auction dinner!

We are proud to have provided $42,000 in scholarships for underserved youth in 2024. We are grateful to our many sponsors, including the Stearns Family Foundation and PenMet Parks and to all of you in our community who contributed to keep the smiles and joy continuing on the waters of Gig Harbor…for the kids!

Gratefully,

Joan Storkman
