Letter to the Editor | Conservatives concerned about Caldier

Posted on August 2nd, 2024 By: Chuck Limwis

In this letter I am writing to my fellow conservatives and readership of Gig Harbor Now. I am growing deeply concerned about Michelle Caldier’s ability to represent the people of our district. I also want to point out that this is not a political influence type letter. We all understand that this is an election year, and politicians will say what they will say about their opponents. However, I believe Michelle has crossed a line and is behaving in a very unhealthy way.

My observations started a while back when I observed Michelle giving a mid-session update at Swiftwater Elementary. The topic of the day was House Bill 1469 which Michelle and Spencer Hutchins had both voted in favor of and a larger majority of the 200+ crowd that day was very upset about it. Now, I think it fair to say that a politician should have a pretty thick skin because people will say unpleasant things when upset. In general, veteran politicians are accustomed to this and are good at embracing people’s frustration and talking through the reasoning behind voting decisions. However, this day, Michelle couldn’t hold her composure. She turned viciously on the crowd making her comments personal rather than objective. Those of you that were there that day know what I mean when I say that if Spencer had not taken control of the meeting things would have quickly got out of control.

There have been other public examples of Michelle losing her cool. We know that Michelle lost her composure with the house leadership and walked out of her caucus. In this event she lost her committee assignments and was not able to properly represent the district. Gig Harbor Now has also reported about how Michelle cannot have access to her staff because of her abusive and vindictive behavior.

Further, if you are watching Michelle’s current campaign rhetoric, she seems to have an overwhelming obsession to blame everything on Jesse Young. Let’s be real. Jesse Young lost his race two years ago and has not even been involved in politics for the last two years. He is just now running again so how could he be responsible for her issues?

The point of all this is to say that while Michelle Caldier has been an effective representative for some time, it’s now clear that that she is really struggling with anger issues. She is demonstrating to us that she needs help, and we ( the voters) should take this into consideration now during the primary rather than the general election.
