Letter to the Editor | Cheers to the PenMet-PSD partnership — and its swim lessons
The announcement of the partnership between PenMet Parks and the Peninsula School District is incredibly exciting for our community. Swim Safe Gig Harbor is proud to offer our congratulations to these two strong organizations for teaming up to provide great services to our community, which include a focus on offering swim lessons.
As the Maritime City, we need to continue to find ways to prioritize water safety and recreation for Gig Harbor and our greater area. Our town is exponentially growing, and safety needs, such as swim lessons, need to continually be at the forefront of our community decisions. Swim Safe Gig Harbor commends PenMet Parks and the Peninsula School District for coming together to do exactly this: finding a way to prioritize our community’s safety and well-being, especially for aquatic needs.
We greatly celebrate this partnership, but with looking to the future, our community is only going to continue to grow. The need for a public aquatic center in Gig Harbor is dire now, and will be even greater in our community’s near future. Water safety should be at the core of our Harbor culture. Without more aquatic space for our community, the lack of water safety options will continue to be a danger for our great town.
The partnership between PenMet Parks and the School District should absolutely be celebrated: two community pillars doing what they can, in the present, to meet our area’s needs. We offer our sincere thanks to all involved with making this collaboration happen. Your work is seen and will make ALL the difference to each child who is safe in the water because of your efforts!
