Letter to the Editor | Fire chief responds to letter about medical response

Posted on March 31st, 2025 By: Dennis Doan

I read Mr. Knuth’s letter titled “Emergency medical response and property taxes” regarding Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One. As Fire Chief, I believe it’s important to respond. Unfortunately, the number of inaccuracies and mischaracterizations about our operations, emergency response practices, and budgeting are too numerous to address in 800 words or less.

I wish Mr. Knuth had contacted me directly before submitting his letter. My door is always open to community members who have questions or concerns about how we serve Gig Harbor. Mr. Knuth — and all members of our community — are always welcome to attend our Board of Fire Commissioners meetings, held both in person at our headquarters and online every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Mr. Knuth, rather than continue this conversation through public letters, I would prefer to meet with you in person to clarify the facts and provide a more accurate understanding of how and why we operate. A respectful, face-to-face discussion is often the most productive way to clear up misunderstandings and exchange ideas.

If you — or any member of the community — would like to meet, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected] to schedule a time.

Sincerely,

Dennis Doan, Fire Chief

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One
