William “Bill” Martin Hanson, 75, passed away suddenly on September 25, 2024, in Gig Harbor, Washington. Bill was born to Russell and Marjorie Hanson of Seattle.

He graduated in 1967 from Shorecrest High School in Seattle. He was a junior merchant marine, then spent four years in the United States Air Force, much of which was stationed in Greece. He met his wife, Trish Finch, in December 1972. They were married in June of 1974 and the rest is history.

Bill worked for the federal government for forty-two years, retiring from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton in 2014. At retirement, he was a zone manager. Since he loved to stay busy, Bill volunteered for two years at the NW Furniture Bank, then worked part-time at the Gig Harbor Ace Hardware for 6+ years until his death.

Bill will be remembered for being kind, gentle, patient, and generous. He had the knowledge and tools to fix anything and acted as a handyman for family, friends, and neighbors; installing lighting and garbage disposals, hanging mirrors, and whatever else was needed. Bill was an avid bowler, an occasional golfer, and a Seattle Mariners baseball fan. Bill loved playing Fantasy Football with his son Daniel.

This past summer Bill, Trish, their children, and grandchildren celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on the Oregon coast.
Bill is survived by his wife of fifty years, Trish, his daughter Monica (Juan), and his son Daniel (Heather). In addition, he had four beautiful grandchildren he cherished and adored: Henry, Emmett, Griffey, and Georgia. They will miss their Bumpa. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sue.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Harbor Covenant Church in Gig Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NW Furniture Bank in Tacoma.
