Miriam Hoiem, 83

Miriam Doreen Hoiem, age 83, passed away peacefully, after battling Parkinson’s disease, on January 1st, 2025 in Grass Valley, CA.

She was born May 5th, 1941, in Edmonton, Alberta. She was the eldest daughter of Gordon and Phyllis Martin. Miriam was married to Bernard Hoiem and they grew up in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, before moving to Cypress California, then to Tacoma, Washington where they lived for 29 years. Then they returned to California for their retirement.

Miriam spent many years teaching Kindergarten in Tacoma and Gig Harbor, affecting many lives. She was known for her love of music, teaching, and cooking. She was a committed Christian who loved attending church.

Miriam is survived by her children Derek and Marie, her sister Myrna, and five grandchildren. Miriam’s memorial service will be held at Valley View Cemetery in Surrey, B.C. Canada at 1pm 5/3/2025 and streamed on her Facebook page.
