Open house next week on Fox Island Bridge study
Pierce County has scheduled a second open house on the type, size and location study for a new Fox Island bridge. The event will be April 8 at Fox Island United Church of Christ, 726 6th Ave.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with an opportunity to preview information and talk to the project team. A 30-minute presentation begins at 5:45 p.m. with a 15-minute question-and-answer session to follow. Attendees will have time afterward to review the information and another opportunity to speak with the team.
An online open house with the same information will be available April 8 through April 29 and can be accessed through the project webpage.
Feedback is important, including an answer to a one-question survey in person or online. Any other comments will also be accepted through April 29.
The county awarded a $1.3 million contract last year to design and engineering firm HDR to produce the study. It will evaluate alignment and structural alternatives, environmental impacts and constraints, constructability and allow the county to more accurately estimate project costs.
The first open house was last August at Artondale Elementary School.
The TS&L is expected to be completed by January 2026. Then the county will explore financing options including but not limited to federal and state grants and appropriations, tolling and bonds.
