Twelve local players earned All-South Sound Conference recognition for the 2022-23 season. Honored were:

H2WHOA dance team wins district title
Gig Harbor High’s defending state champion dance team, H2WHOA, executed a flawless routine to take home the first place trophy in the Hip Hop division at the district competition March 4 at Kentlake High School.

The dance team competes as a varsity sport and performs at football and basketball games, school assemblies and community events. They are looking for back to back state championships under coach Tifny Eicher. State is March 24 at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome.
Baseball season openers
The defending South Sound Conference champion Peninsula baseball team opens its season with a non-league game against Emerald Ridge at Sehmel Park at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11. The Seahawks were 16-8 and 12-5 in league last year.
Top returners for the Seahawks include Payton Knowles, who hit .527 batting average last year, and Gavin Sheets, who lead the team with an ERA of 1.48.
Gig Harbor opens its baseball season in a tournament in Richland on Saturday, March 11. The games will be the first for coach Spencer Manjarrez, who takes over for the retired Pete Jansen, who won three state championships with the Tides.
