Gig Harbor grad Michael Toglia called up to Major Leagues
Gig Harbor High School graduate Michael Toglia is on his way to the big leagues.
The Colorado Rockies promoted the 2016 Gig Harbor alum to the Majors on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The first baseman could make his big league debut as early as this afternoon, when the Rockies face the Atlanta Braves.
Toglia was promoted just three weeks after joining Triple-A Albuquerque. He joined the Isotopes on Aug. 9 from the Hartford Yard Goats of the Eastern League, for whom he clobbered a season-record 23 home runs.

He had no trouble with Triple-A pitching. Toglia hit 7 homers in his first 15 games with the Isotopes, including three in an 18-7 loss to Round Rock on Aug. 27.
Between Hartford and Albuquerque, Toglia hit .249 with a .341 on-base percentage and a .510 slugging percentage. He hit a combined 30 home runs with 83 RBI in the two stops.
The Rockies first drafted Toglia in the 35th round in 2016, but he opted to attend UCLA instead of turning pro. They picked him a second time in 2019, that time 23rd overall in the first round.
