Fire destroys house off of Rosedale Street
A fire destroyed a home, sent a man to the hospital and left him and two other residents without shelter Monday morning.
Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One crews responded at 9:24 a.m. to the single-story home on 87th Street NW, off of Rosedale Street and 66th Avenue NW. The house was in flames when they arrived. The three occupants — a man and two women — had already gotten out, though the man was injured, said spokeswoman Tina Curran. His condition isn’t known.
Units responded from several stations, including tenders because there were no hydrants in the area. Knowing nobody remained inside, they fought the fire from the outside and quickly doused it, but remained on site more than an hour searching for hot spots. There was significant damage throughout the house, rendering it unlivable, Curran said.
The fire marshal will conduct an investigation. Pierce County Sheriff’s detectives also are on scene to investigate a possible domestic issue “because enough evidence was provided by the homeowner that we felt like it was appropriate,” Curran said.
A chaplain was helping the women find accommodations, and the Red Cross was being called in to help.
The women said there had been cats in the house. They hadn’t been found, but hopefully had escaped outside, Curran said.
It’s not known whether the house had working smoke alarms.
