The Peninsula swim team has been practicing at Gig Harbor High’s pool, and that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future, with repairs not yet underway, Patrick Gillespie, Peninsula School District’s facilities director, told the school board last week.
Facilities staff discovered the leaks this summer after draining the pool to replace the lights. When they started to refill it, they noticed the water was draining back down, Gillespie said.
The district has worked with several companies to diagnose the problem. A pool company replaced the plumbing under the pool. “We found one of the leaks,” Gillespie said. “Unfortunately, there’s multiple.”
The district has had trouble finding a contractor capable of doing the additional repairs because of the size of the pipes and complexity of the work. They are ironing out a contract with a company that has credentials to do the job, Gillespie said. Once the contract is signed, the facilities department will give an update on when the pool will reopen to students and the public.
