The Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday recently donated $10,000 to Food Backpacks 4 Kids, an organization dedicated to combating food insecurity among children in the Key Peninsula area. Food Backpacks 4 Kids works to ensure that children from low-income families do not go hungry, particularly during weekends and school breaks when free meals are not available. The organization provides backpacks filled with nutritious food to students every week, ensuring that they have access to adequate nutrition when they need it most.
“The Gig Harbor Midday Rotary is committed to improving the lives of children and families in our community,” said Nathan Schlicher, president of the Gig Harbor Midday Rotary. “This donation reinforces our dedication to supporting programs that make a tangible difference. We believe that every child deserves access to food in order to thrive academically and socially.”
The $10,000 donation will be used to purchase food supplies, expand the number of families served, and support logistics related to food distribution. With the rise in food insecurity exacerbated by recent economic challenges, the need for such support is more critical than ever.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Gig Harbor Midday Rotary for their unwavering support,” said Zaida Woodworth, director of Food Backpacks 4 Kids. “This donation allows us to continue our mission of providing essential meals to children in need and ensures that they have the nourishment necessary to succeed.”
The partnership exemplifies the spirit of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and highlights the power of community-driven initiatives to create positive change. The members of the Gig Harbor Midday Rotary are proud to collaborate with Food Backpacks 4 Kids and look forward to seeing the benefits of this donation in the lives of local students.
