Harbor Happenings | Classic Boat Show, Beer Fest and more
The annual Classic Boat Show takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Tides Tavern dock.

Dozens of boats will be on display including The Porpoise, a replica of the Wilkes Expedition survey gig that gave Gig Harbor its name.
Vintage Chris Craft and other classic boats will also tie up at the dock for the show. The show runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at 2925 Harborview Drive.
Beer Festival
More than a dozen craft breweries, along with a couple cider makers and a local distillery, will participate in the Gig Harbor Beer Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the Uptown Pavilion.
Participating brewers include 7 Seas, Gig Harbor Brewing, Acorn Brewing of Edgewood, Bent Bine Brewery of Belfair, Crane’s Castle Brewing of Bremerton, Ghostfish Brewing of Seattle, Lazy Boy Brewing of Everett, Narrows Brewing of Tacoma, Rainy Daze of Silverdale, Ridgeline Brewing of Bremerton and Silver City Brewery of Bremerton. Also on tap will be Locust Cider, 2 Towns Cider and Heritage Distilling Company.
Music will be provided by Kristen Marlo, Jack Parker and The Remedy and My Guilty Pleasure. Tickets cost $32 and include admission, a five-ounce festival pilsner cup and 10 taster tokens. The Beer Festival supports the Gig Harbor Kiwanis Foundation. Click here for tickets.
‘Freaky Friday’ at Peninsula High
“Freaky Friday” continues at Peninsula High School with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 16 through 18). The play tells the hilarious and heartwarming story about a mother and daughter who accidentally break a magic hourglass and switch bodies. It gives them each a chance to experience life from the other’s perspective as they race to get ready for the daughter’s wedding. Curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5 to $20. Get tickets here.
Live music
Accordion master Andy Mirkovich grew up in Gig Harbor listening to members of local fishing families play music at parties. They inspired him start taking accordion lessons at age 5. Since then, Mirkovich has performed with the likes of Lawrence Welk, Liberace, Burl Ives, Danny Kaye and the Vienna Boys Choir. He was also a featured performer at the Space Needle for more than a decade. Mirkovich brings his music to the BoatShop for a hometown gig at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Tickets cost $30.
Jethro Tull fans won’t want to miss a night of acoustic music with Paul and Marcie Forrest, Friday at the Olalla Winery. Tickets are $15 for the 6:30 p.m. show. Purchase tickets here.

- The Flashback Cinema movie at the Galaxy Uptown Theaters on Wednesday, May 15, is “The Wizard of Oz” showing at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Flashback movie on Sunday, May 19, is “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” showing at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flashback movies are just $5.
- The Pierce County Humane Society hosts an adopt-a-thon and pet food drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the Civic Center on Grandview Street. Pet food donations will be accepted through May 31.
- The city of Gig Harbor hosts a free Property Tax Exemption Seminar at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, for low-income senior citizens and people with disabilities. People over 61 years of age and people who are fully disabled whose gross household income is at or below $64,000 can qualify for a property tax exemption. The Civic Center is located at 3510 Grandview St.
