Harbor Happenings | Possible plans for Crescent Creek Park unveiled April 9

The city of Gig Harbor will unveil potential master plan concepts for the future of Crescent Creek Park from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 9.

HBB Architects, under a contract with the city, developed three potential concepts after meeting with community groups and taking public input. More comment will be taken at Wednesday’s open house-style meeting at the park on Vernhardson Street.

Waterfront Walking Tours

The Gig Harbor Downtown Waterfront Alliance’s first guided waterfront tour of 2025 starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10.  The walk includes stops at Skansie Netshed, Harbor WildWatch, the Maritime Pier and the Gig Harbor Marina and Boatyard.

These “Pints, Myths and Maritime Spirits” walks will take place on the second Thursday of every month and cost $30 per person or $10 for kids under 12. The fee includes a pre-tour beverages at Heritage Distilling and post-tour beverage at 7Seas.

The Waterfront Alliance, Harbor WildWatch and the Harbor History Museum are co-sponsoring the walks. Click here for tickets. The summer walking tours of the waterfront , which cover a distance of about a mile-and-a-half, will start again in June.

Flashlight Egg Hunt

PenMet Parks will sponsor a free, teen-oriented egg hunt starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Sehmel Homestead Park, 10123 78th Ave. NW. Search for eggs by the glow of a flashlight and enjoy music, games and treats. Registration for the egg hunt is required. Sign-up here.

Plant swap

The spring Gig Harbor Plant Swap is from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, in the parking lot next to HomeGoods in Uptown Gig Harbor.

The plant swap is an opportunity for gardeners to share plants, seeds, cuttings, divisions, tools, empty pots and other garden-related items. Swaps occur on the second Saturdays of January, April, June and September.

Emergency preparedness expo

More than 40 vendors will be on hand for the Peninsula Emergency Preparedness Coalition’s  (PEP-C) Preparedness Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Gig Harbor High School.

Workshop topics include Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula wildland fire evacuation exercises and a “Stop the Bleed” hands-on course. Admission is free. GHHS is located at 5101 Rosedale St.

Rainbow Roller Disco

Pride Gig Harbor hosts Rainbow Roller Disco, a fundraiser for the 2025 Pride in the Park event, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, the Key Peninsula Civic Center, 17010 South Vaughn Road NW.

The event includes skating, tarot readings, a lip sync contest, skate clinic, silent auction, food, drag story time and more. Tickets cost $10 to $18. Buy them here.

Great Sasquatch Hunt continues

PenMet Parks’ Great Sasquatch Hunt visits Sunrise Beach Park, 10015 Sunrise Beach Dr NW, this week.

The hunt continues throughout April, with Sasquatch moving to a different park each week. Last week, the bigfoot was at Sehmel Homestead Park; next week, it will move to Harbor Family Park.

Participants can get a passport book at PenMet headquarters and stamp the Sasquatch’s location each week. Families completing all four location stamps get a prize.

Art show continues

“Collaborative Identity: A Dual Exhibition by Hanna Ra and Emily Won” continues in the gallery at Tacoma Community College’s Gig Harbor campus, 3993 Hunt Street N.W. The show features Ra’s acrylic paintings and Won’s copper wire drawings.

An artists reception is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10. The TCC gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

 Live music

Dusty Luck plays danceable country rock at Kimball Coffeehouse at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11. Kimball also hosts an open mic at 6 p.m. every Thursday. Kimball events are free and family friendly.

The Mistaken brings their genre-bending blues, jazz, country and originals to O’Looney’s Irish Pub at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11. O’Looney’s is located at 3222 56th Street.

At the movies

The Spring Fest movie at the Galaxy Theatres in Uptown this week is The Little Rascals, with Alfalfa wooing Darla as his pals try to sabotage the romance. Showtimes are 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8; 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9; and 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10.

The Spring Fest movie starting Friday, April 11, is “Hop.” Showtimes are 11:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 11; 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13; and 11:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15. Spring Fest movies are just $2.

The Flashback Cinema movie at the Galaxy on Wednesday, April 9, is “The Notebook,” playing at 12:30 and 6 p.m. On Sunday, the Flashback movie is “The Goonies,” Steven Spielberg’s 1980’s adventure comedy. Showtimes at 12:15 and 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13. Flashback movies are just $5.

Civic engagement

Attorneys from Tacomaprobono will be on hand Tuesday, April 8 to answer questions about eviction, family and consumer law, landlord-tenant issues and other civil issues. Free. No registration is needed; questions will be answered on a first-come-first-served basis. The Legal Aid Pop-up will take place at the Civic Center, 3510 Grandview Street, from 4 to 6 p.m.

State Rep. Adison Richards, D-Gig Harbor, will host a town hall from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 12, at the Key Peninsula Civic Center, 17010 S Vaughn Road NW.

The Gig Harbor City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, at the Civic Center. Tentative agenda items include annexation of a property adjacent to Crescent Creek Park, and a continued public hearing and adoption of the 2024 Comprehensive Plan update.

Councilmember Jeni Woock hosts Jeni Listens, Tuesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. at Cutter’s Point Coffee in the Olympic Shopping Center.
