The Tides downed Auburn Mountainview, 61-48, in their district opener while Peninsula fell to Lincoln, 44-37.

Peninsula wound up tied with Yelm for the South Sound Conference’s final postseason berth, but lost the decisive draw.

The Gig Harbor and Peninsula girls begin the road to the state tournament on Friday followed by the Tides boys on Saturday.

Tides boys swimmers qualified nine entries for state and Seahawks wrestlers advanced eight to regionals.

Dunking Will Landram, sharpshooting Luke Browne and a strong supporting cast have paced Gig Harbor to a 17-1 record.

Peninsula and Gig Harbor athletes open postseason competition late this week in the West Central District III 3A swimming championships and sub-regional wrestling tournament. Swimming will be staged Friday and Saturday at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma, and wrestling Saturday at Capital High in Olympia. Spectators will be allowed to attend wrestling, but not swimming,

North Thurston avenged its only defeat of the year, but Gig Harbor would still get the league’s top seed if both teams win out.

Peninsula and Gig Harbor scrambled to make up postponements, but got all of their league matches in and are looking ahead to the postseason.

The Tides compete today at the league championship meet, to be followed by district and state competitions.
