Incumbent Jeni Woock captured 71% of the votes in the three-person August primary election. Robert Wiles followed with 17%.
Several actions have been taken the past few years to recognize the historical importance of the area where Gig Harbor now sits to its original inhabitants.

The City Council approved a 6-month moratorium on short-term rental applications and adopted interim zoning controls that allow emergency shelters and housing, permanent supportive housing and transitional housing in designated areas.
