Snow updates for Feb. 4: Schools again opening two hours late
The National Weather Service expects light snow to continue in the Gig Harbor area through the first week of February.

Forecasters expect little accumulation, but the winter weather is causing delays and disruptions.
- Peninsula School District classes started two hours late again on Tuesday, Feb. 4.
- PenMet Parks are closed to vehicle traffic until 9 a.m. Programs and community rentals scheduled before 1 p.m. are canceled.
- The city of Gig Harbor’s also delayed opening of its Civic Center building until 10 a.m. due to the weather.
Monday, Feb. 3
Classes in the Peninsula School District started two hours late on Monday, Feb. 3, as the first significant snowfall of 2025 fell on the region.
Other snow closures and delays include:
- The city of Gig Harbor’s also delayed opening of its Civic Center building until 10 a.m. due to the weather.
- Tacoma Community College’s Gig Harbor campus opened at 10 a.m.
- PenMet Parks are closed to vehicle traffic until 9 a.m. Programs and community rentals scheduled before 1 p.m. are canceled.
- Chapel Hill Church at 7700 Skansie Ave. will open its lobby as a day warming center from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Feb. 3 through 6. Enter through door D. Call 253-405-2829 for entry or information.
As of 7 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service forecast for Gig Harbor calls for snow to continue during the afternoon and evening. Forecasters expect less than half an inch of accumulation.
