Why I Support Adison Richards to Represent the 26th District
I have known Adison since he was in middle school. I have never met anyone who cares so much about helping others and supporting those in need. His passion for working for the people in public office started at a young age and before we knew it he was working down in Olympia with a state senator, graduating from UW, and earning a Law Degree at Villanova. Working for the people in this district is not a whim for Adison, it is truly his passion.
Adison’s opponent on the other hand frightens me. He held this position in the past for 10 years. During that time, he voted to ban abortion in Washington 13 times. He wanted rape victims who had abortions jailed, and doctors and nurses who performed abortions jailed and charged with murder. Healthcare decisions are a private matter between a woman and her doctor, not the domain of legislators.
The abortion issue is bad enough, but what makes me sick to the core about Jesse Young is that when the youth in our community organized Black Lives Matter rallies, not only did members of our community show up with assault rifles and tactical gear posturing towards the youth and adults across the street, Jesse Young, our representative in the 26th district at the time, stood with them. Not once but twice.
Jesse Young also voted to protect people convicted of domestic violence from having their guns taken away. “Every 16 hours a woman is fatally shot by a current or former intimate partner.” (The Guardian) Jesse Young sides with the offender’s right to own a gun over the victims right to be safe.
Additionally, according to a 2017 News Tribune article Jesse Young was so verbally abusive to his staff there was an investigation. He was not allowed to have staff or an office at the capital and refused to take the Anger Management classes required to regain his privileges.
That is not what this community represents. We are better than that. Vote Adison Richards for State Representative 26th LD Position 1, you won’t regret it!
