Local organizations are celebrating Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month and gearing up for Halloween with mask making events, costume parties and painting experiences.

Veteran tours

The Gig Harbor BoatShop hosts a fall colors tour of Colvos Passage aboard the historic purse seiner Veteran on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The tours run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and depart from the Maritime Pier next to the Tides Tavern. Reservations are required. The BoatShop does not sell individual tickets on the tours, but rents the whole boat (room for up to six people) for $600.

The Veteran was launched by Skansie Ship Building Co. of Gig Harbor in 1926. The restored vessel is an example of the Skansie purse seiner design, used by local fishing families for generations.

Veteran voyages offering authentic experiences of commercial fishing techniques and vessels continue on select days in October and November. Find a schedule here.
