Margaret Stratton, 94

Domestic goddess Margaret Stratton (94) passed on September 24, 2024 at Harbor Place in Gig Harbor, WA.

Margaret was the first of seven children. After graduating from Holy Rosary High School, she worked at an insurance company. She met and married James (Jim) Stratton and had two daughters.

Shopping was a favorite pursuit; you name it she shopped it and probably bought it. Shout out to Gig Harbor J. Jill store, she was cremated with one of your catalogs.

Margaret liked to move every few years. Sometimes for Jim’s job (Virginia, Beirut, Paris, London) and sometimes just itchy feet (West Seattle, Palm Desert, Hood Canal, and many places in Gig Harbor). She kept scrap books of ideas for building, landscaping and decorating houses. After Jim passed and she gained total control of the check book, she put those ideas into action.

She was a passionate cook who adored entertaining. Holidays were a big deal. She prepared months in advance and they were always tons of fun. Equally enjoyable were her impromptu “leftover” nights; lots of cocktails and whatever was in the fridge which was usually excellent.

Margaret is survived by: daughter Jamie and her partner John; daughter Nancy and her husband Jerry; granddaughters Libby and Katie; siblings Phil and his wife Val, David, Susan and Rose.

We will miss her style, generosity, marvelous cooking, sense of humor and total lack of filter.

Her memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on October 30th, 2024 at St John’s Episcopal Church in Gig Harbor, WA. In lieu of memorial gifts please share a good meal with your loved ones and raise a glass to Margaret.
