It was more like paws than boots on the ground at the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor Midday’s 20th annual Harbor Hounds Community Dog Festival and Charity Fundraiser on the green grounds of Skansie Brothers Park on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024.

The few hundred canine attendees who filtered in throughout the day were treated to all the love, snacks, and attention they could handle, as well as a whole water park just for them (actually, it was the fountain display that’s always there, but don’t tell them that). Their humans, several dogs told this reporter, had it second-best — sure, they had some paw-sitively great food from the various food trucks there, but no one asked their humans to dress up in costumes or show off their best tricks in any contests judged by Gig Harbor’s very own Mayor Tracie Markley, now, did they?

Fortunately, the humans didn’t seem to mind, especially the small ones, who carried around dog-themed balloons and played with their four-legged friends, while the big ones visited the 32 dog-oriented vendor and service booths. The Rotarians were busy themselves, buzzing around the event meant to raise money for the Rotary Club’s different charitable works and grants.

This reporter is the first to admit she is biased, because of the sheer number of cute pups she got to photograph and pet, but all in all, still has no qualms saying that everyone had a doggone good time.
