Bella Gordon, a senior at Peninsula High School, has found her passion in teaching and community service. Inspired by her mother, a dedicated teacher for over two decades, Bella plans to attend Eastern Washington University in the fall, where she will major in elementary education.

She hopes to teach kindergarten and make a positive impact on young lives, just as her mother has. “I’ve seen my mom touch the lives of countless children by valuing them as human beings,” says Bella. “I want to do the same.”

Fond memories of Peninsula High School

When asked what she will miss most about high school, Bella Gordon reflects on the sense of community at Peninsula High School. “Whether it was cheering on our sports teams, participating in the annual Food Bowl competition, or cleaning up the campus, we always came together for a common cause,” she says.

Bella also highlights her Leadership teachers, who played a significant role in shaping her confidence and leadership skills.

“They created an environment that felt like home,” she remarks. As she moves on to Eastern Washington University, Bella knows she will miss the supportive teachers and the spirit of camaraderie at Peninsula High School.

Advice for incoming freshmen

Bella’s advice to incoming freshmen is to get involved in as many clubs and activities as possible. “Finding people you connect with is crucial to your success in high school,” she says. “These are the people who will stand by your side through thick and thin and cheer you on through the highs and lows.”

A Special Connection with the Elderly

Bella has also worked at Harbor Heritage Adult Family Homes as an activities coordinator, where she has connected with older generations.

She recalls a memorable moment when a resident asked if she knew how to play cribbage. This encounter led her to learn the game from her grandmother, creating a special bond with both her grandma and the residents at Harbor Heritage.

“Seeing the joy on their faces as we play brings me so much happiness,” she says.

Favorite teacher: Bella credits Mrs. Osera, her favorite teacher, for guiding her through high school and holding her to high standards. “She has always been welcoming and willing to talk about any topic on my mind,” she says. “Her high standards have pushed me to become a better reader and writer.”

Best thing about high school: “Hands-down the best thing about Peninsula High School is Leadership class. All my leadership class teachers have empowered me and have created an environment for me to grow and thrive.”
