Firefighters save Point Fosdick Drive home after flames engulf outbuildings

Firefighters saved a home and RV on the 3600 block of Point Fosdick Drive after responding to reports of a fire in an outbuilding.

Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One public information officer Tina Curran said firefighters found flames extending at least 25 feet in the air when they arrived at the property around 10 p.m. Saturday, April 20. A detached garage and several outbuildings were fully engulfed in flames, with a residence and 30-foot recreational vehicle trailer nearby.

 Firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to the trailer or the RV.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire. GHFMO reported no injuries.

A GHFMO social media post said the area lacks water hydrants, so firefighters had to relay hoses between a water tender and multiple engines.

Firefighters heard several explosions coming from inside the garage and outbuildings, likely caused by gasoline or propane containers.

Curran said because no one was home, the fire progressed substantially before neighbors noticed it. Firefighters had to act quickly to save the home and RV.

“That became priority one,” Curran said. “The crews did an excellent job.”

West Pierce Fire & Rescue, Tacoma Fire and South Kitsap Fire and Rescue helped GHFMO respond to the fire. The Pierce County Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating its cause.
