Gig Harbor Police Blotter | Officers find several guns in warrant subject’s car

Gig Harbor officers found numerous guns, apparently stolen IDs, credit cards and fentanyl pills after arresting a Port Orchard man in a business parking lot on Point Fosdick Drive on Feb. 24.

An officer noticed a Honda Civic with broken windows parked near a dumpster around 3:30 p.m. A man inside the vehicle was “on the nod,” a term describing the head movements of someone who recently took fentanyl or heroin.

After a second officer arrived, the first officer attempted to speak with the man in the Civic. Upon opening the car door, the officer noticed a handgun in a pocket on his left leg.

The 32-year-old Port Orchard man was finally startled awake when the officer opened the door. He immediately reached for the gun. The officer grabbed it first and put it on the roof the car. Officers arrested the man on a drug charge and a felony theft warrant from Kitsap County.

After a judge granted a search warrant, officers found two more guns, stolen credit cards and fentanyl pills in the vehicle.

Driving under the influence of Pokemon Go

A 38-year-old woman explained to police that the reason she was driving erratically was that she was playing Pokemon Go behind the wheel.

Police learned that she also had an outstanding arrest warrant, so they took her to the Pierce County Jail.

A Gig Harbor officer stopped the Gig Harbor woman because she was driving excessively slowly on Grandview Street and turned at an intersection without using a turn signal. She told the officer she was staring at a Pokemon Go game on her phone.

When checking her driving record, the officer found an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant for driving under the influence. He arrested her and took her to the Pierce County Jail.

Officer sprays uncooperative subject

A Gig Harbor officer pepper-sprayed a 52-year-old Port Orchard man and briefly held him at gunpoint after the suspect resisted arrest on the afternoon of March 2.

The officer was patrolling a parking lot on Olympic Drive when he noticed a man “duck down as I drove by” his car. The officer ran the vehicle’s license plate and found that its registered owner is the subject of many arrest warrants on domestic violence and DUI charges.

It took several minutes for the officer to convince the man to step out of his vehicle. When he did, he refused to put his hands behind his body for handcuffing. He then tried to get back inside his vehicle and appeared to be reaching for something, the officer wrote.

At that point the officer drew his sidearm and pointed it at the suspect. The suspect briefly acted like he was reaching for something in his pocket, but thought better of it and put his hands in a visible place on his lap.

When the suspect again refused to exit the vehicle, the officer sprayed him. After a couple minutes of this, the suspect was more compliant.

Medics eventually took the suspect to the hospital for evaluation, where he had to be strapped to a gurney and sedated for evaluation. Officers later booked him into the Kitsap County Jail for his outstanding warrants.

Yes, she had something hidden

Police arrested a 32-year-old woman from Tenino, Thurston County, for driving with a suspended license and arrest warrants after she fled from officers at a business on Point Fosdick Drive.

An officer noticed a suspicious Jeep in the parking lot and ran its plate. The registered owner of the vehicle was the Tenino woman, who had three arrest warrants and a suspended drivers license. When the officer watched her drive away despite the suspended license, he attempted a traffic stop.

The Jeep fled, running red lights and passing cars on the shoulder on Olympic Drive. The officer discontinued the search, but other people reported seeing the Jeep driving the same way on Highway 16.

Eventually, police in University Place spotted the Jeep there and arrested the Tenino woman. A Gig Harbor officer crossed the bridge to take her to the Pierce County Jail.

The officer searched the suspect and asked a routine question, if she had anything hidden on her body. She told him she had a vibrator inserted in her vagina. The officer told her she could remove it when they got to the jail.

The jail rejected her, however, because she had high blood pressure that needed to be addressed at a hospital. The officer took her to the hospital, where the woman removed the device and asked that it be held for safekeeping. The officer declined, telling her the item was garbage at this point. It was last seen on a hospital bed.

The woman was booked into the Pierce County Jail for felony eluding and the warrant charges.
