Letter to the Editor | Peninsula High Key Club collects 950 pounds of pet food

To Best Friends Doggie Day Care, Bayside Animal Lodge, Gig Harbor YMCA, and Gig Harbor community.

On behalf of Peninsula High School’s Kiwanis Key Club and our community service project, Paws-4-a-Cause, we extend our deepest gratitude for your incredible generosity and support. Your contributions have made a significant impact on our mission to provide for our furry friends in need.

We would like to express our appreciation to Best Friends Doggie Day Care for hosting our collection bins and being a steadfast supporter of our cause. Bayside Animal Lodge, your consistent provision of kibbles has been instrumental in helping us meet the needs of our pet food bank. A special thank you to Gig Harbor YMCA and its patrons for joining our cause and contributing to the well-being of animals in our community.  To date we have collected 950 pounds of pet food.

As part of the Kiwanis family, Key Club volunteers at Kiwanis projects, including those supporting Food Backpacks 4 Kids. Our members chose the name Paws 4 a Cause and designed the logo that now adorns our collection bins. These bins, strategically placed at various locations, serve as a vital connection between our community and the pets in need.

Regular visits to the bins, meticulous logging of items, and the collection of dry and canned pet food have enabled us to support Food Backpacks 4 Kids. Additionally, thanks to your generosity, we have been able to donate essential items such as pet dishes, collars, coats, blankets, leashes, treat puzzles, and toys to FISH.

Looking ahead, Peninsula High School’s Key Club is planning an in-store pet food drive, a pet food competition involving Gig Harbor Kiwanis and the Altrusa Club of Gig Harbor and exploring potential new donation locations. These initiatives are fueled by the unwavering support we have received from you and our community.

Once again, thank you to the Gig Harbor community for opening your hearts and demonstrating incredible generosity. Together, we are making a positive impact on the lives of our furry companions.
