Man struck and killed while crossing Point Fosdick Drive
A Gig Harbor man died Tuesday morning after being hit by a car while crossing Point Fosdick Drive.
At 6:07 a.m., police and fire units were sent to Point Fosdick’s 4800 block, just south of the Harbor Plaza (Metropolitan Market) entrance, for a collision. They found a 57-year-old Gig Harbor man who had been struck by a Mercedes SUV, said Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey.
The man had been crossing the road from west to east. It was dark and rainy, and he was wearing dark clothing, Busey said.
A 54-year-old Gig Harbor woman was driving the Mercedes, which was headed north. She stayed at the scene.
All but one southbound lane of Point Fosdick Drive were closed while an investigation was conducted by the Metro Collision Response Team comprising experts from several small agencies within Pierce County, Busey said.
