Harbor Happenings: Slurp spaghetti for a good cause

Soggy fall days call for comfort foods. Like spaghetti.

The Gig Harbor Senior Center will host a fun-for-the-whole-family spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Eagles Club. The meal includes spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert.

Tickets range from $5 for kids 5 and under to $24 for all-you-can-eat. The Eagles Club is located at 4425 Burnham Drive. Click here for information.

Harbor WildWatch events

  • Harbor WildWatch presents Make Waves, a fundraiser to support environmental education programs, at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Ocean5. Tickets cost $75 and include drinks, heavy appetizers and a Raise-the-Paddle auction. Make reservations here.
  • Harbor WildWatch’s Cocktails and Fishtales event for October takes place Friday, Oct. 20, with a program about using robots to conduct rockfish surveys in the Salish Sea. The program starts at 6 p.m. on the WildWatch Facebook page.

Family fun at the history museum

Arts and crafts activities, spooky stories and cocoa and cookies are on the program for Fall Family Night at the Harbor History Museum at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. Tickets cost $10 per child, or $5 for museum members. Recommended for ages 12 and under. Email [email protected] to RSVP.

Music

  • Jesse Meade plays original tunes and a variety of covers at the Olalla Winery starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. Reserve tickets here.
  • Thursday is open mic night at Kimball Coffeehouse, starting at 5:30 p.m. Musicians, poets, jugglers and other entertainers are invited to show off their skills to a friendly audience. Free admission.

 

At the movies

The Flashback Cinema movie at Galaxy Uptown Theatres on Wednesday, Oct. 18, is “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.” Showtimes are 12:30 and 6 p.m. The Flashback movie on Sunday, Oct. 22, is “Beetlejuice.” Showtimes are 11:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Flashback tickets cost $5.

Civic engagement

City council candidates Ed Nadler and Mary Barber are the featured speakers at this week’s Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Forum at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Gig Harbor Court, 3213 45th St. Ct. Admission is free.

The Gig Harbor City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the civic center on Grandview Street. Tentative agenda items include discussion of an agreement with Harbor History Museum for use of the old Masonic Lodge; and a hearing on a variance to height restrictions in certain areas. City council meetings take place in person and can also be accessed via Zoom.
