The residents were home at the time of the fire, but no one was injured, according to GHFMO Division Chief Tom Wescott. Firefighters rescued a cat from the house. It was taken to a vet’s office.
Firefighters were still battling the blaze in the estimated 3,400-square-foot house at 3 p.m., four hours after it was first reported. The fire reached the attic of the house and firefighters contended with water supply issues, leading them to take a defensive stance.
Lakewood-based West Pierce Fire & Rescue, Tacoma Fire and Orting Fire all responded to help fight the fire. About 20 fire vehicles responded all told.
The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is at the home to investigate the cause.
