Mike Benoit named new principal at Peninsula High School
Peninsula School District announced Wednesday that Mike Benoit will be the new principal at Peninsula High School starting in the 2022-23 school year.
Benoit, the current principal at Harbor Ridge Middle School, replaces Joe Potts, who is leaving PHS for a position with Bellevue School District as of Aug. 1.
Benoit has been in education for over 30 years. He’s a graduate of Washington State University and received his master’s degree from Gonzaga University. He began his career in Federal Way School District as a teacher and later building principal.
Benoit came to Peninsula School District in 2004 as principal of Vaughn Elementary School. He’s been principal of Harbor Ridge since 2010. He and his family are 20-year residents of Gig Harbor.
“I know with his compassionate leadership and experience in education, Mr. Benoit will be an amazing principal for the PHS community and that we will have a great school year,” said Assistant Superintendent Dan Gregory.
“Benoit is invested in the PSD community and the families here, and is excited to bring his positive energy and love of our kids to the high school level at PHS,” the district said in its announcement.
In his free time, Benoit enjoys the outdoors, swimming, family time, and learning and exploring new things.
The district is in an “accelerated process” of seeking a new principal for Harbor Ridge. An announcement of Benoit’s replacement s anticipated by mid-August.
