Fourth of July: Weather, fireworks displays and more

Here’s what you need to know about the Fourth of July in the Gig Harbor area:

Weather forecast

The National Weather Service forecast for the Gig Harbor area calls for sunny skies and high temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s on July 3 and 4. Temperatures could hit the 90s by the weekend.

Despite a damp spring, Pierce County has been under a burn ban since June 1. The ban applies only to land-clearing and yard-debris fires, but officials warned this spring about a potentially bad wildfire season.

Personal fireworks

Laws governing use of personal fireworks vary by jurisdiction.

Unincorporated Pierce County

The county allows fireworks use between 10 a.m. and midnight on the Fourth of July only. Fireworks sales are permitted from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily through the Fourth.

City of Gig Harbor

The city banned the sale and use of fireworks inside city limits in 2022.

Unincorporated Kitsap County

Personal fireworks can be used between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July only.

Where to see fireworks

The Gig Harbor area does not host a public fireworks display, but you can find them in surrounding communities.

Tacoma’s Summer Blast takes place just across the bridge in Ruston. The celebration at Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park on Ruston Way includes more than 150 vendors, two stages and a 20-minute firework display. The fireworks, launched from a barge off Cummings Park, start around 10 p.m. Click here for more information.

Port Orchard’s fireworks display moved this year to Saturday, July 6. The show, launched from Sinclair Inlet between Port Orchard and Bremerton, starts around 10 p.m. Vendors, musical performances and other festivities start at 10 a.m. at Port of Bremerton Marina Park in downtown Port Orchard.
